Jason Gilmore
Board Title: Board President
Professional Role: Senior Regional Director of Advancement, College of Engineering, University of Michigan
What do you do and your main area of expertise?
Professionally, I work in philanthropy and advancement at the University of Michigan’s College of Engineering, where I build relationships with alumni and supporters who want to invest in education, student success, and research. My work focuses on connecting people’s values and interests with meaningful opportunities to make an impact. That background translates well to nonprofit leadership, where relationship building, governance, and thoughtful strategy are essential.
What experience do you have in doing these things?
I have spent much of my career working at the intersection of community engagement, fundraising, and nonprofit leadership. In addition to my professional role in higher education advancement, I serve in leadership roles on several nonprofit boards focused on community development and education. My experience includes board governance, organizational strategy, donor engagement, and building partnerships that help organizations grow sustainably. With MTMCA, I am particularly interested in strengthening the organization’s structure and partnerships so it can continue advancing cycling access, advocacy, and the legacy of Major Taylor across Michigan.
What are your values or ethos for doing this work at MTMCA?
My approach is rooted in the belief that cycling can be a powerful tool for community building, health, and mobility. Major Taylor’s story represents perseverance, excellence, and breaking barriers. I believe organizations that carry his name have a responsibility to expand access to cycling, advocate for safer streets, and create welcoming spaces for riders of all backgrounds. Good governance, thoughtful leadership, and community partnerships are essential to making that work sustainable.
